About TRIO Thinkquest
TRIO ThinkQuest is an educational website-building competition for middle and high school students enrolled in TRIO programs
across the US. TRIO is a federally funded education program that annually serves over 900,000 low-income, first generation
college-bound students, and students with disabilities. the TRIO Training Program at the University of Washington provides
leadership and support to the TRIO ThinkQuest competition, and the Oracle Education Foundation is proud to partner with TRIO
training to support students' success.

Rain of Ruin was designed to inform and educate visitors about the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, an event that
has profoundly impacted our world and continues to do so to this day. More specifically, the site focuses on the decision to
drop the bomb and whether or not it can be justified. The website presents information leading to the bombings and its aftermath,
and encourages visitors to use the information to form their own views about this important historical event.

The Sacred Carvings: Mdw Ntr
This website will inform young people about the mysterious language of Mdw Ntr. Mdw Ntr translates to mean "God’s Words", and its Greek
translation is the word hieroglyphics. Mdw Ntr originated in Ancient Egypt, called, KMT (Kemet), and was used consistently by priests.
This website will let young people be more aware of Mdw Ntr, the culture of the people of KMT, and its impact on present day popular
culture amongst youth. This website will let people know about Mdw Ntr in a fun and educational way. Our team is honored to be a
trailblazer in the presentation of this information.

International District: The Unknown Legacy
This website concerns the history of Chinatown in Seattle and its immigrants. This topic is important because Chinese and other Asian
immigrants had a significant impact on Seattle. They contributed a lot, yet received no recognition, instead only harsh words and
racist epitaphs. They were treated as second class citizens, shunned away from society and put into a little area of Seattle called
Chinatown. This area has a lot of history, yet it is always overlooked. We want to educate Chinatown/International District's
immigrants on how its social reality shaped their life.

Japanese Prints
This website covers a brief history of ancient Japanese prints and how they came to be. Japanese prints have been a big
influence in Japan's culture. Japanese prints are not all the same; instead they are all different in some way. Some of them use
the same techniques and have their own style. We will be covering three of the many styles of Japanese prints. Three artists will
also be covered throughout this website.

Guernica
On April 26, 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, the Basque town of Guernica was bombed by the German squadron known as the Condor Legion,
under the command of Francisco Franco. The Condor Legion was assigned aerial missions throughout Spain, as Nazi Germany's prime contribution
to Franco's forces. As a result, there were approximately 10,000 deaths, most of which were elderly people, women, and children. The
bombardment of Guernica became a world-renowned symbol of the horrors of war. It inspired Pablo Picasso's most anti- war work of art,
called Guernica. In this painting, Picasso captured the anguish and despair resulting from the violence and dementia of Franco and his actions.

Valiant Soldiers of WWII
This web site was created in honor of World War II Soldiers. It commemorates the unsung warriors that fought for the freedom of the
civilized world. It focuses on three groups (Filipino, African American and Chinese) as they represent our team members’
cultural-ethnic backgrounds. We want people to know of these groups’ roles and hardships throughout World War II.

This website was created in the defense of Upward Bound and all other associated programs with TRiO. Sadly the President of the
United States has decided to say that money is more important than education. Because of the proposed Fiscal Year 2006 budget,
Upward Bound will cease to exist if there is no action taken. We would like you to view what Upward Bound is from the
students' eyes, and hopefully you can pass it on to the President.

This site provides both a list of remedies for common ailments, found through our research, and a list of remedies provided by forty
students and staff we surveyed this summer. We also provide a list of remedy myths that may or may not work, so we do not
recommend trying them.

Bird Database
This summer, our research project was to learn about a database from Carol Lushbough, who works at USD. We also went into the
field and collected bird data and added it to a database we created. This website chronicles that data.
