Creatures of the Night and You

1999
Humans often fear what they do not understand: the dark, monsters, animals that look or behave different than they do themselves. The broad objectives of "Creatures of the Night and You" are to help children understand nocturnal sights and sounds, dispel any fears, and encourage them to enjoy their evenings outside by explaining the night. Our entry does this through descriptions of the biology, physiology, astronomy, and mythology of the night, along with intriguing pictures, participatory activities, and actual sounds. The many different navigational paths allow the student to begin exploring those areas that interest him or her most, yet still be free to return easily to other areas. Areas will help the student understand the physical difference between nocturnal, crepuscular and diurnal creatures, identify constellations and differentiate stars, galaxies, and comets, and recognize the noises of the night as the language of specific creatures
