Eating Disorders for Teens

2000
Eating disorders are becoming a major issue for adolescents and young adults around the world. The growing numbers of young children (before puberty) with eating disorders are becoming more and more alarming each year. This page explains why we should not be tricked by the highs that come with dieting, nor the unrealistic dream of being able to look like a super model and learn the consequences of the disorder. Eating disorders are mostly seen amongst perfectionist girls with low self-esteem and little self-assertion. However, the number of men with eating disorders is also growing. A strict diet taken too seriously can easily lead to anorexia nervosa and develop into bulimia nervosa. Although being overweight may be unhealthy, one must also keep in mind that an eating disorder can be fatal. We have tried to make a web page that looks inviting and is easy to understand for everybody. This web page explains the typical disorders - their symptoms, the consequences, how they are treated and other basic facts. We have also included an interview with a doctor, a quick-read (memo version) for longer passages, a Japanese version, and a Message Board. We hope our page will help "correct" knowledge about eating disorders become common sense before an ordinary child can become a victim.
