Team Collaboration
According to Abraham Lincoln, “A house divided cannot stand.” This statement I believe is what makes our team successful in many aspects of this project. We, The Antibiotics, have strong collaboration skills that help us complete our work on time.
This team is made up of individuals with unique talents and skills. The human anatomy is made up of different t major systems, each having its role to make a properly functioning human body—exactly what our team portrays. We are made up of four individuals- Magali, Merrell, Julio, and Araceli who all have different skills that make this project possible. Magali’s leadership is essential to the team’s success. She facilitates and organizes all of the team’s tasks. She gives us the necessary timeline to make sure our assignments are completed on time and make sure that procrastination is not an opinion. Merrel has the ability to write essays, proofread, and provide ways to put our ideas on paper. This is essential to the group’s success because communication is an important aspect of the Thinkquest project. We need to be able to get our message across to people everywhere and offer them educational knowledge. Julio, on the other hand, is the person that deals with the technical aspect of the project. He is most knowledgeable in web design. He creates flash animation with ease, builds a site interface that other groups envy, and provides our team with such variety of design ideas that we have no room to contain all of it. With his skills, we are able to create a unique website we can be proud of. Without a topic this group wouldn’t exist. Araceli gave us the idea about doing a project on the human anatomy. She made us realize that since all four of us have strong interests in science, why not show people things that amazes us every day. This team is made up of individuals that have a strong desire to pursue a career in the medical field someday. I believe that the effort put on this project is genuine because it gives us a glimpse of our future. This group has poured its heart out in creating a website that provides people an informative and, most importantly, an educational place for science. This group strives for excellence. In order for us to achieve this, participation and an effective collaboration is needed. Though difficult challenges came our way, our group’s persistent and no-guts-no glory mentality helped us overcome and withstand these challenges. We believe that nothing is impossible as long as everybody participates and fulfill their roles. Our group stands tall, never divided.
Team Diversity
The diversity in this country is reflective of our team’s. I am Filipino, and many of my team mates are Hispanic. Though we are considered minorities, we always overlook this factor because our success does not depend on it.
Our group is composed of four individuals. They are Merrell, Magali, Julio, and Araceli. Though made up of three Hispanics and one Asian, we consider our group to be very diverse in many ways. Our differences contribute to the diversity of our project. Merrell’s mother was a family physician in the Philippines, thus sparking his desire to work in the medical field-- particularly be a pharmacist in the future. Magali is the same. She wants to venture into the world of medicine and someday be a doctor. Julio’s exceptional skills in web design provide the group the edge in a web site layout that stands out from many. Araceli’s strong academic ideals along with a mindset to succeed in everything offers the group the motivation and inspiration needed to successfully create a great informative website. With all the unique skills, traits, and abilities each individual in our group has, we are able to all contribute in the diversity of our group. Merrell and Magali’s desire to have careers in the medical field, Julio’s creativity in web design, and Araceli’s outstanding academic performance were all ingredients to the group’s final decision into venturing on the topic of human anatomy.
Although diversity gives our group a huge positive impact, it also has its downfalls that made it sometimes hard to complete our tasks. For example Merrell is only present in collaboration with the group three days a week because of his dual credit program with Wright College. He takes classes two days outside of high school and only communicates with the group through email and phone. This makes it hard for the group to reach him if questions are needed to be answered from him. Magali is an active youth member from her church youth group and has activities and roles that also require as much time as the group project and can potentially hurt the group’s productivity. Julio and Araceli also have responsibilities outside of school that somewhat hindered their consistency in producing quality work for the group. Despite these animosities that can potentially ruin our group’s project, we were still able to produce a project that we are proud of because of our ability to never lose contact with each other. Our communication with each other was consistent thus producing an exceptional project.
