Debate Deconstructed

1999
Debate Deconstructed will delve into the very word "debate". By examining the various mechanics and functions of formal debating, we shall present competitive debating laid bare and attempt to show how it is closely linked to our daily mundane lives. We will bring people away from the conventional perspective of debating: that of an isolated and non-relative competition. By being people-oriented, we shall show how debating is closely linked to man himself in several ways. We shall also show how the numerous experiences that one goes through and backgrounds one comes from affects how one debates, formally or not. Race, religion and culture all play a part in one's debating style, as shall be shown. As an introduction, Debate Deconstructed also features a primer on debating, and the various aspects and skills of formal, competitive debating for those who require such resources. To complete this holistic picture, the site will show how debating is closely intertwined with our daily lives, presenting debating in yet another different light. The primer is not only geared towards beginners, but for those who want to hone their skills in competition. For these people, there will be a focus on persuasive speaking and to be more persuasive and more poised towards pushing your ideas and proposals using effective and efficient methods. There is also ample space for vocal ones to voice their views and positions about various issues pertaining to the subject. Indeed, learning is a collective process, and all the more pertinent to debating.
