Black Holes are not black - after Hawking they shine!
2000
We describe the concept of Black Holes using Newton's theory of gravitation - no prior knowledge of the general theory of relativity is required. We present a simple derivation of Hawking's famous temperature formula - no prior knowledge of quantum mechanics is required either.
This enables us to calculate the temperature, luminosity and lifetime of the tiny Black Hole used in Larry Niven's award winning science fiction detective story "The Hole Man".
