Team Collaboration
Also in terms of collaboration our team found its specialties. Overall we could say that despite of being clear individuals with each our own specialties, we united as one strong team who could work together all along, within the project as well as outside of it. This created a nice working atmosphere. As stated earlier we could replenish one another in every situation. For example looking at the girl, who had to work together with four boys. We noticed in some situations where we had to act and decide quickly, the girl wasn’t able to do this smoothly as she is used to overlooking and considering things in great detail. In these situations the boys could jump in and make the decision for her, preventing the danger of a lack of time. The other way around, the girl used part of her time checking the work the boys had done and corrected it when necessary. This final check made sure the work would come on the website presentable. Another strong advantage of our team is the fact that we had 4 ‘economists’, and one ‘technician’. This could be used all the time, as the technician could help with all the future technical developments (which makes a great deal of our website) and took a great deal for his part, while the economists were busy with predicting the economic and social sides of future society. We didn’t get into much conflicts which impeded the work to be done. And if any conflict occurred, these were never of much importance and easily solved together. So no complaints within the group; we’ve had a fun and informative project-time and will definitely work together in the future again when possible!
Team Diversity
Four Dutch people (one girl and three boys) and one Iranian boy make our team; Back to the Future. We are all of the same age and same education level. However, there is some diversity within the individual members. First of all each individual member had a specialty. We’d done the Belbin test to see what your best function was when working in a group. You could be a plant, a source analyst, a cooperator, etc. The girl turned out to be the source analyst, which we clearly noticed during the project. This was interesting, as we see that the girl thinks in a different way compared to the boys. The girl tends to think more sensitive and she always looks at a subject from different points of view and in great detail. The boys usually have one idea about something and they’ll stick to that. Also one big, but useful difference was the fact that one boy follows a more technical education, while the others are more into the economic side. So we could replenish one another during the whole project!
