Mardi Gras originated in the middle of the second century, in Rome. As far as we know, the French were the first to celebrate Mardi Gras in America, somewhere in the years of 1699-1700. Mardi Gras officially begins 12 days after Christmas, which is January 6th. Mardi Gras Day always falls 46 days before Easter and the day before Ash Wednesday, and it ends at the stroke of midnight. In case you are wondering, Mardi Gras is a great place to visit and bring children.
