Team Collaboration
We did the Belbin test to indicate what kind of person all the pupils were. This site determines your capacities and interest by means of asking you questions. Some were leaders, others were information-seekers and so on. Because the team-members were random selected we weren’t all friends. We first expected that this would bring us problems But it didn’t.
When we had to chose a subject, Rik and Tim wanted to make a website on global warming. Luca, Saskia and Ruud, thought that this was too unoriginal. Saskia, Luca and Ruud wanted to make a website on cancer and cancer treatments. Luca knew a lot about it because her mom is suffering from this disease. It didn’t take much for them to convince Rik and Tim and we soon started making our website.
We divided the tasks with the results of the Belbin test in the back of our head. Ruud became the leader and worked on the content of the website, Saskia was responsible for the actual website, and Luca, Rik and Tim were focussing on the content of the website.
Another problem that we had to face was that the creating of the website was pretty hard. We were lucky to have a member in our team whose dad knew a lot about it because he had studied ICT. We for example had to resize the pictures. And it were a lot of pictures because of the photo gallery. We had to make sure that visitors would be able to view our site on any kind of screen and all-over the world, that’s why we had to work with a certain amount of pixels. This was quite hard.
We worked with deadlines. So during the lessons we each started working on a part and at the end of the lesson we agreed on when it should be finished. If you didn’t finish it before the deadline, you would get an extra task. This way of working worked quite well.
Team Diversity
Because the team members were chosen by means of the Belbin test, the teams were quite diverse. We weren’t all best friends (this doesn’t mean that we couldn’t get on with each other) and this had a positive effect on our teamwork. I think when a team consists of a few good friends I think that can go wrong. Because there can be fight and losing friends is not nice. So we were happy with our team.
Our teacher has an Hispanic nationality and one boy in our team is Italian. The rest is Dutch. This didn’t cause any disagreements or struggles. It brings in diversity and that’s a good point.
The group had members which are pretty different in means of personality. But that didn’t matter. We had a good teamwork and if there were any problems we didn’t solve it by a fight but by a good talk.
We all were very independent. That was very useful. Because we discussed the site and divided the tasks. We all did the work we had tot do and came together. Everything was okay thanks to our independency.
