Child Labor In Turkey

2009
As students who are concerned about global issues, we want to attract attention to a big problem affecting both Turkey and many developing countries around the world, 'Child Labor'. Our mission is to create a website that educates, alerts others to a problem that often doesn't receive the attention it deserves, and inform others of the activities which we do at home and at school, which have an impact on the quality of life around us.

Team Collaboration

As a group we believe that being successful requires hard work. Our success is the result of our team spirit. Being responsible, respecting each other, and having fun at the same time is our secret. The importance of our topic has made it easier for us to work because it's a common problem among our peers, so it's even more interesting for us. Our school has supported us a lot with this project. We have been working during our social activity class specifically for ThinkQuest. During that time we distributed responsibilities, talked about the design of the site, did some research, took photos and worked really hard. In Turkey we have an exam called SBS (level determination exam ) taken at the end of 8th grade. This exam is really important for our future so we have to work really hard for it. All of us are attending extra courses after school for this exam so we have very little time left for ourselves or work about this project. But that did not discourage us. We loved this project and while we are working this hard, this project has been like a break for us. In the 'stretch run', we decided on a day during the week and stayed after school on Mondays to develop the project. To be honest it was hard but we think it was worth doing. We created a 'Wiki' that could help us keep all the information we were collecting in one place, and allow us a place for discussions and communication outside of school hours. This project taught us a lot of things and made us more sensitive about child labor. We learned a lot about each other. All of us have different qualities and contributed to the project in a different way, which made our project a beautiful and rewarding experience.

Team Diversity

Diversity is a catchword for many things these days. It sometimes seems to have great value and other times it's just an overused word. Our "ThinkQuest" team comes from three different religious backgrounds, two countries and three cities. Most of us are from middle/upper-middle class upbringings, in other words "privileged." Our struggles and challenges have come from the strict rules that Turkey often has in place that require us to work harder, overcome more obstacles and balance many responsibilities.
