Porphyria: An Explanation for Vampire and Werewolf Legends?

1999
This site is about a genetic disorder called Porphyria that might have led to the origin of Vampire and Werewolf legends. In this site we explain that Porphyria sufferers are not vampires or werewolves. We try to explain how prejudice against them might have given rise to these legends. We give a modern explanation of the condition and the genetic and chemical basis of porphyria. We presented a few vampire and werewolf stories and described their characteristics. The site allows people to submit their own vampire stories and comments about our topic.
