Team Collaboration
The collaboration for team “Relume” has been exceptional given that everyone cooperated and completed their assigned work load. My fellow group members were motivated and eager to complete our website to the best of their abilities and I feel we fulfilled that desire. Each member in our group contributed greatly but contributed their own uniqueness while taking up this project. While all of us portrayed dedicated, each of us had individual strengths that contributed to the production of our website.
John, also a senior, brought his individual strengths in the writing portion of our project such as his vocabulary and clarity of convention errors. His strong skills in English enabled us to document our information and data in the clearest way possible. His knowledge in Flash, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver made the project much easier because he knew how to perform certain functions others were having problems with. His overall participation in the project made the completion of it possible. He enthusiastically did what he had to do and as a result, his individual grade went up.
Jose, a senior as well, brought the creative side of the project to life! Jose was fluent in all the programs used and knew how to maneuver his way around. His creative mindset made our project that much stronger. The colors, layout, and structure of our website were original and creative thanks to the input of Jose. Though all of us agreed on the structure and overall look of our website, Jose always brought constructive criticism to the group and it was well appreciated because it did positively affect our website. Jose was always on top of deadlines and his enthusiasm made everyone else in the group feel they should be as responsible as him.
I felt my contribution was all of the above, but primarily exercised my leadership skills. The workload was distributed evenly and I had to complete it because I felt it was my responsibility as a leader and facilitator to set the trend in our group. Showing responsibility and work ethic was what I thought I brought to the table. I didn’t feel pressured because I know my group was performing to the best of their ability, even through given circumstances. When obstacles presented themselves I was there to push our group passed it and proceed with our responsibilities to the project. With a slight motivational push our group availed and the product was satisfactory. Our group was strong throughout and we grew individually as people and learned that as students we should take responsibility for whatever we do in and out of class.
Team Diversity
They say that opposites attract and we are a great example. Even though we grew up in the same state and attend the same school, we are very different individuals. We all come similar cultures, Puerto Rican and Mexican. Our characteristics range from leader, perfectionist, and artist among others. Relating to the task of the ThinkQuest we have different abilities. Edson and John are both efficient with Fireworks and Dreamweaver. This allows the team to complete our task with minimal problems. Jose is our artistic backbone, he’s an efficient Freehand user and helps with the color scheme and overall website design. As a whole we are proficient with Flash which allows quicker completion of a single task. Diversity doesn’t just lie within the abilities to work with different programs, what also helps is the different styles, even though we aren’t labeled as anything in particular both our music style and clothing is different allowing for different views when it comes to the creations of this website. Thanks to Edson’s likes of simplicity but still look elegant our first theme came along, to keep it simple but looking nice. When it comes to Jose, his style gives us a much crazier and imaginative style. Thanks to this style the website is elegant but at the same time has an extra touch of color and different styles. John has a calm attitude that helps a lot with the design as well as the research aspect of the project. Our project is focused on money saving strategies. All of us come from about the same economic standings and live in about the same communities. Edson comes from a middle class community and was eligible for financial aid. John comes from a middle class family and was awarded financial aid for school if he attends the University of Illinois at Chicago. Jose also comes from a middle class family although he didn’t apply for financial aid, he’s paying college with the help of his parents and loans. Though we all may be from the same neighborhoods and ethnic backgrounds, our hobbies and cultures are expressed differently. We divided the research based on background knowledge, and our way of thinking when it comes to saving money. Edson took on the task of rewards cards because he owns many and believes they help, while Jose focused on coupons even though he doesn’t use them he heard that they are helpful, to make this information more credible John’s main focus was statistics because from the team he’s good with statistical math. There are different factors that motivate each of us and they’ve come in handy when it came to completing our website.
