The Gift of Prometheus

2001
Prometheus, according to legend, stole fire from the Heavens and brought it down for all mankind. This Fire sparked off the beginning of science and technology on Earth. Legend aside, our state of technological advancement today is the result of the creative minds and relentless efforts of people over the millennia. All we know of them may be from ruins and artifacts, but the fruits of their genius and hard work live on in whatever we do. This site attempts to recognise their achievement and pay tribute to them by making known what they have done and how we have benefited from it. Our site documents the inventions and innovations of six of the pioneer peoples of science – the Babylonians , the Chinese, the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Indians and the Romans. It discusses the various scientific developments of each civilization and the people and places behind them, in various fields including mathematics, construction, warfare, medicine and many others. Information is put forward through text accompanied with relevant images. A site map, glossary of terms and a user-friendly menu gives visitors easy access to the site. Quizzes, puzzles and an image gallery offer information from a different perspective. A discussion forum invites users to contribute to the site as well as learn from others. We hope your visit will be an enriching experience and we urge you to share this experience with others on the siteas well. Welcome!
