Journey to Mauna Kea

1999
Mauna Kea, the white capped mountain! Many visitors come to our state to see this landmark. Many countries have built telescopes on the top of this beautiful mountain. Why? What is the appeal of this landmark? Our site presents what four students learned about Mauna Kea. Using technology tools to enhance their learning, the students search the web for information and evaluated what was relevant for their reports. They then constructed web pages to share their findings with others. The students wanted to let other people know what some of the physical aspects of Mauna Kea are, what plants and animals live there, what kind of observatories are located there and why there are so many observatories at the summit. They also wanted to inform others that yes, there is snow in Hawaii! A person can go skiing, snowboarding and even boogie boarding on top of Mauna Kea.
