Team Collaboration

The USA team is made up four students, 2 in the fifth grade and two in the fourth grade. The students decided to break the research down into three groups: The tree harvesting & shipping, processing and manufacturing and European chocolate.

All three groups gathered the necessary information, then the American girls worked on putting all the information together.

Both groups visited a chocolate factory in their own country. They interviewed chocolatiers in both facotries. We did have some difficulties in communications between the two parts of the team. Computers were more readily available to the American students. We all enjoyed working together and understanding our culutual differences.

Team Diversity

Our team was made up of girls who are in different grades and living in different societies.

The German girls are in a "Gymnasium" which only takes the best students who are bound for the university. They are only exposed to the highest achieving classmates. The American girls are in a hetrogenous classroom and are exposed to students of all abilities.

"The Dietrich Bonhoeffer Schule" in Weinheim is a large school situated in the city of Weinheim. The American girls live in a rural area. The American school, "Edith Ort Thomas" is very small and is only an elementary school. There are only about 160 students in grades Pre-K to 8.

We also have students of a variety of ethnic backgrounds, including Hispanic, onr team.

Our assistant couch is also disabled.
