Team Collaboration
We are a 4 member team based in Virginia. Our team was diverse in various aspects. We had three girls and one boy. Three of us are of Indian origin and one of Caucasian origin. The age groups varied from 10 to 12 with two of us in the fifth grade and two of us in the seventh grade. We also belonged to different religions. We had different strengths in art, mathematics, photography, design, conducting experiments, logical programming and more.
We had good collaboration, and met regularly and worked hard to reach our goal. Our website focuses on the effect of sound on the environment. We believe, that in current times, many are exposed to sound, yet no one is aware of it until it actually causes damage. Our goal is to inform and educate people especially our peers that noise is harming them. Noise load is increasing in our society. That is why we have tried to convince people to take an effort towards lowering exposure to noise pollution. We also took surveys as evidence of our research. Using our surveys, we developed a bar graph.
Our site consists of many different sections and subsections, each with a brief summary. We tried to make the information clear, yet short and concise. We also added pictures to make the information more interesting to read and remember.
Though some noise may seem relaxing and stress-relieving, it may eventually lead to hearing impairments. We sincerely hope that we have taught you about noise and its harmful effects.
Our team members worked hard, exchanged ideas and worked together on the project. We used email and Google Documents to communicate with each other. We initially had many interesting project leads suggested by different members but decided to choose “Noise, Not Music to our Ears” as the topic since our generation is experiencing a noise overload. We thought that noise and its impact was neglected and not given enough importance. The main topic “Noise Not Music to our ears” was divided into several subtopics with each member working on some subsections.
We communicated often by email and instant message. There were times when we had to sacrifice leisure activities and weekends to work on the project. There was constant interaction, reading, exchanges of material on the topic between members, working on the demo and testing cool software tools.
We did like to thank our coach, our parents and friends who advised us and taught us to use Dreamweaver, Javascript, Swish and also reminded us of our deadline. This was a great experience and we all are looking forward to doing it again.
