International Disasters of the Last Century
1999
Our webpage is a compilation of some of the worst disasters of the last century, in a somewhat way of celebrating the Millennium. We chose the last hundred years instead of the last thousand years, because we thought that would be too broad, and we narrowed it down. We have a total of six different disasters; some were very popular, such as Titanic, and others were less well known, such as the Mount Pelee eruption. Our page includes Hurricane Andrew, one of the worst hurricanes to ever hit America, the Tri-State tornado, that lasted for hours, instead of minutes like a normal tornado, and Titanic, which was sunk by an ice burg on its maiden voyage. There is also the Mt. Pelee volcano eruption, which destroyed the town of St. Pierre without any lava, the Ebola virus outbreaks, and the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, one of the largest on the San Andreas Fault. You will see on our page that we went into depth on these disasters, including some quotes of survivors of the catastrophes. We believe that good information is very important, so you don't spend all day searching several websites to find information. We want to expose the public to various disasters, so they can learn more about these dark points in history. However, we learn from these disasters, so we can be prepared the next time one of them occurs. The purpose of learning the past is to learn our mistakes, to protect the future.
