Team Collaboration

In order for our group to collaborate we assigned every group member three to four pages for our Thinkquest website, which is about pancreatic cancer. Each group member is assigned a different topic for our website and we also assigned the dates for when these pages were going to be due. Every week, the group members would have a page due on the day of the week that they were assigned to. During this competition, a difficult problem was to get approval for the pictures that we looked for on the web. Over time, we received very few approvals for the requests that we sent to the owners of the pictures. This was becoming a difficult problem for us because we wanted to have pictures, but we did not want to repeat pictures in our web pages. As a group, we decided to make some of our own pictures in Macromedia Freehand. Using the pictures that we looked for on the web without an approval would most likely get our group disqualified. Another way that we overcame this problem was searching for pictures in government websites that approved us to use pictures without requesting them. During this competition, we learned and experienced a lot about the program known as Macromedia Freehand. Learning and experiencing this program was a productive result because it helped our group to deal with the picture problem that we were going through. As a group, we learned a lot more about pancreatic cancer, which was our main topic for our web page. We knew that pancreatic cancer was a disease in the pancreas, but by doing research on this cancer we learned a lot more. Learning more about pancreatic cancer was beneficial for our group because now we know how to prevent and we can also help people deal with this disease physically and emotionally. Not only is our group going to learn about this disease, but the other people will be more aware by visiting our webpage. Team collaboration was a task that our group members dealt with properly.

Team Diversity

If we can describe our group’s diversity in one sentence it would be impossible. Even though everyone from our group is Latino, we have different ethnicities, backgrounds, goals, beliefs, religions and lifestyles. Each one of us has different strengths and weaknesses, and hobbies. We all bring something unique and exciting to the website in our own way.

One of the major differences that enhances our website in so many ways is our beliefs. There are many options for treating cancer and some of those options aren’t always easy to agree with between some of the group members. For example one of the students in our group believes, because of the religion that they are in, that donating, and receiving blood is a sin. Another one of our members believes that there shouldn’t be any treatments at all that if someone is meant to pass because of cancer than there shouldn’t be any help to prevent it. The other two students agree with the doctors and say that what ever needs to be done to help the patients that are dealing with cancer then do it.

Some of the students from our group are wealthier than others, and because of that that can also affect our website. We might have different opinions on the treatments because some will do whatever to help treat cancer no matter how much it costs, and one of our members wont because they feel like money is more important than health.

Cancer can be very hard to deal with not only physically but mentally. It can be very stressful to many people. You can get self conscious because loss of hair and maybe lose too much weight. Cancer patients are fighting for there life, and are probably scared to die. People in our group have many different opinions. Some of us grew up with parents who show emotions and tell there kids they love them all the time and the rest of us have parents and family that barley tell them those types of things, and because of that we have different opinions when it comes to cancer patients when coping with cancer. Some of us may think that it won’t be that hard and others think that it will. Some of us are more emotional than others.

Our team has a lot of diversity and that enhances our website in so many ways. Some of us are good at computers, which, makes it easier to create our website the right way. English is another talent, which lets us write the correct way. Art is another that some students have in our team, which makes our project look creative.
