In the past few months, we have met up regularly to discuss the project. We have organized library trips to source for information as well as browse through a wider range of current resources that may be of help to our project. This allowed the team to get an idea of current resources and to create an educational resource website that offers reliable sources of information. Frequent meetings at different member's houses allowed us to receive feedback from the group members and include their viewpoints to consideration on improvement to the website. The roles of the members were as important. We have a graphic designer who excels at graphic appeals to design the banner and layout of the website, as well as two researchers who each cover the internet and the print resources. Lastly, we had a website designer which further compiled the researched information and eventually input this information into the website. This allowed team diversity as the team members were skilled in different areas and when there is teamwork among the group, the outcome would be great.
The team used information from a wide range of sources. From print resources, to non-print resources, all these have been taken into consideration. For the print resources, the library provided much help as it offered a huge collection of information, ranging from medical books to handbooks and survivor stories. This allowed us to gain insights towards cancer and their effects. The library also offered non-print resources in the form of videos. These videos explained much of the current technology and the different treatments to cancer, as well as the process behind these treatment methods. Other non-print resources included information from the internet. The internet has helped us much as the information required can be retrieved quickly, and it gives us more time to evaluate the source and check the credibility before including it into the website.
Although the team included members from the same school, there is no doubt that there were contrasting viewpoints from each member. However as the group recognized the importance of teamwork, these problems were often solved easily.
Furthermore, we took on the task of finishing a ThinkQuest project as something separate from our daily academic loads. It has been a great experience learning about collaboration and teamwork despite the immense amount of workloads we were individually given in our school (we often stayed up till the wee hours because we had to complete our homework beforehand!). In spite of the fact that we are all geographically in the same area, the scarcity of 'free' time to work on the project proved to be a challenge that we managed to overcome because each of us wanted to see this to fruition... and we're glad that we were able to produce a resource that would probably benefit many others in the long run.
