The essential question this project addresses is how can we meet the food needs of the hungry in our community? Standards addressed include: F.4.1 Conduct research and inquiry on self-selected or assigned topics, issues, or problems and use an appropriate form to communicate their findings, B.4.1 Create or produce writing to communicate with different audiences for a variety of purposes, B.4.2 Plan, revise, edit, and publish clear and effective writing, C.4.3 Select multiple sources of information to help answer questions selected for classroom investigations, C.4.1 Identify and explain the individual's responsibilities to family, peers, and the community, including the need for civility and respect for diversity. The primary expected outcome is readers of the essay will be motivated to begin community garden projects of their own. Required resources include: internet accessibility, reference books and access to gardening and population demographics experts. This project will help the world recognize that by starting with our own communities, we can all do our part to end world hunger.
