The Nature of Ornament

Man has always been craving for beauty. He has been decorating his house, furniture, clothes. The basis of these decorations is ornament. But what do we call ornament? Can every decoration be called ornament? This is the topic of our site. We investigate the question from two points of view: one of an artist and the other is of a mathematician. All the photos and drawings are made by the authors. It was an important part of our investigation. Also, we used the Logo programs developed by our friend Mike Sandy from Great Britain to get various examples of wallpaper designs. We think that it would be interesting for visitors not only to learn our work, but to try to build their own ornaments. We hope also that our work will make people to look more attentively at the world around them.
