Bleaching

1999
We have been applying the process of bleaching unknowingly throughout our daily lives. Many people have overlooked the significant role of bleaching and hence in our website, we would like to introduce to our viewrs the beauty of the chemistry of bleaching. Though briefly, we managed todescribe its chemical aspects, different areas o bleaching and interesting facts about it involving a wide area of discussion. In both lower and upper levels of education (GCE 'O' and 'A' levels), reduction-oxidation (redox) reactions are being taught and emphasized to the students. As bleaching is mainly a redox reaction, we hope that students will learn about redox reactions through bleaching and at the same time have fun while viewing our website. They will also find it more interesting when this aspect of chemistry is applicable to their daily life. The experiments proposed are simple to conduct, and offer an interesting way to enlighten students about the mechanism of bleaches. As for the science or chemistry teachers, they would also find it useful when extracting information regarding bleaching at a reasonable comprehensive and concise level. This will further serve as a teaching aid for the teachers to pass on the knowledge of bleaching to their students.
