The Road to Freedom

1999
The Underground Railroad was a journey of hardship and tragedy for many who traveled it. This system was called the Underground Railroad because activities were carried on in secret and because railway terms were used to describe the system in order to disguise the real nature of the operation. The objectives of this web site are to familiarize students with the names of the people involved, the vocabulary words needed, and the effect of this secret system on the future of the plantation owners. Games, music, written articles, and vocabulary lists are some of the activities that students will use to learn from this web site.
