Coming to America Past and Present
2001
"Coming to America Past and Present" is a look at the difference between immigrants coming to the United States in the past and today. Many immigrants entered the United States through Ellis Island and you will get a look at what it was like for them. Take a virtual tour of Ellis Island with one of our links. Today immigrants must come through U.S. customs. Was it different? We interviewed immigrants from our school and asked them what it was like coming to America. (Our school is an English as a Second Language, ESL, center school.) We looked at our school's heritage and hope that you would compare it to your school's or your class' heritage. Take a look at your family heritage and check to see if any of your ancestors stopped at Ellis Island and are on the Wall of Honor; "Coming to America Past and Present" also reviews fiction books and gives some activities to do with them. There is also a list of nonfiction books relating to immigrants. Come and see what we have learned about immigration. We hope you enjoy learning about it through our site.
