Business & Industry > Money & Economics
Although we were at two different schools, we came together as fellow classmates to create a project called, "It's My Business". We chose this topic because the economy is bad and we live in a very small town. We thought it would be good to put ourselves in a business owner's shoes. We created our own business plan after talking to our mayor. We also talked to the mayor of a large city near here. After we chose our topic, we divided the work and we messaged each other in TQ to find out the progress of each team member. If one person was having trouble, then another one stepped in to help. Cameron and I met every day in the computer lab and worked on the project during free time. Amy and Bekah had to work at home because their school does not have computer class. We divided the work based on our talent. Cameron did most of the drawing and Haley did most of the writing. Amy and Bekah did most of the research. We met together to brainstorm ideas after school sometimes. We also brainstormed using ThinkQuest.
Haley was our team captain and organized most of the work, the pages, and the content. She and Cameron proofread the project, too. We learned the difficulties of opening a business, the steps it takes, and also the rewarding things about business. We also learned that it's difficult when everyone isn't at the same school to work together and get things done. We learned that sometimes one person can't do their job until another job is completed.
This project was a lot of fun and we learned about business, how to work together, and about ThinkQuest. This is our first year to use ThinkQuest in our school. Our computer teacher, Mrs. Harris, introduced us to it in October and we love it. Mrs. Lightsey is our classroom teacher and our TQ Coach. So, we learned to use a brand new program for us, how to use a project, and how to be a team. All of that in just a short time.
We all live near each other, but we go to different schools. Some of us are older and go to middle school and some of us are younger and are still in elementary school. We have very different talents and abilities. Some of us are very quiet and some are very outgoing. We realize that when people have different points of view that it is important to talk about those differences and work it out. We think we did a good job of working together in spite of our differences.
