Team Collaboration
Our team started out as only two students. We were excited to work together and wanted to find other students from another country. We did not get contacted by anyone else so we decided we needed to add more group members. We are 6th graders and everyone else in our class was already on a team. So we decided to write a letter to two 5th grade girls to invited them to be on our team. They accepted and we were glad!!! We had so much fun working together. Later, we had a new student come into the gifted student program in 5th grade so we invited her to join. Our group was up to 5 members.
What was neat about our group was that we did not go to Quest on the same day of the week. So on Mondays, 6th grade (Kayla and Carli) worked on the site. On Tuesdays 5th grade (Olivia, Emma, and Daphna) worked on the site. We got a lot more done than we ever imagined!
Carli is good at artistic design so she helped to create what the site looks like. She was also the team leader and she is easy to work with.
Kayla created animations because she is also artistic and good at using the computer. She is also organized and we learned that organization is very important. Kayla was also the webmaster because she is good at details and is very technical.
Olivia is very organized and jumped right into helping with everything. She knows a lot about fish because her family goes deep sea fishing.
Emma likes to help with everything too! She did whatever we needed her to do like write content, check over pages, and find pictures from Flickr. She is also easy to work with.
Daphna joined the team late so she didn't do as much. She did sit with us and gave her opinion on how the website looked.
Our biggest problem in working together was that we couldn't work on the same days. So we had to leave notes or talk to one another to share our ideas. Some days we were able to work together after school but that wasn't often. So we learned how to collaborate with one another like people do in "real jobs" and we didn't disagree.
Team Diversity
Our team was different in many ways. One way was our ages. Two of us are in 6th grade and 3 of us are in 5th grade. The 6th graders are more mature and knowledgeable but we didn't act bossy. There are two Jewish students in the group. This affected our group because two of us could not work on Wednesdays. This didn't bother our other team mates. They accepted this and worked on those days.
We all live in the same town and have about the same socio-economics.
These differences and similarities worked in our favor because we understood one another. These similarities helped us to work together easily and we didn't have conflict.
