(∞ People x P.H.S. ÷ Hope + Green) = - Hunger

2009
Our project name is actually an equation (∞ People x P.H.S. ÷ Hope + Green) = - Hunger It stands for: Infinite People multiplied by Plants, Harvest & Share, divided by Hope plus Green, equals Less Hunger. With that idea in mind students came with the next essential question: How can we help end world hunger by learning to harvest our own backyards? Standards: Science, Technology and Society Outcomes: By working together students will learn the importance of team work and cooperative learning to solve problems. Motivated to end world hunger students will be able to demonstrate that by working the soil and planting in our own backyards we can successfully harvest crops that we can use to feed ourselves and others by sharing their crops. In this way they can be role models to others in their community. During the process students will learn the skills needed to successfully prepare compost and transform an unused open space into a successful harvest area.

Team Collaboration

Each students was given a task they had to perform according to their experiences during the whole project and their abilities and skills. As examples, Roberto is very good making movie maker movies, so he hid the introductory movie for the project. He also did the logo for the project. Jose is very good with making funny narrations helping make the whole writing more interesting. Amy is very methodical and always did good putting all the steps of the process in order remembering all the little details other team members might forgotten. Jenith did good choosing the best pictures for the project and making explanations about them. Marcos is a natural leader and he helped putting everyone into perspective while coming out with great explanations about the whole process of planting and harvesting.
