Team Collaboration
We discussed among each other and made sure all our work were divided equally. After which we had to compile all our work together to complete our final work piece. Our website required a certain amount of animation. Therefore we had split our work according to those who were doing the animation and those who were researching for the content.
Shi Hui: As a leader of the team I helped to hold the team togther. I was able to it well as I am naturally a person who is flexible so I was able to bond with them in the process. I was also given a chance to impart my IT knowledge to the other team members, who are my juniors. The whole learning journey was fun, interactive and simply satisfying.
Joanne: Through this project, I've learnt many valuable qualities. Teamwork is always vital in order for a project to be successful. Even though we have gone through many difficulties such as finding the right time to meet up as everyone has their own busy schedule to adhere to, we have managed to overcome our problems through discussion via phone and online. As a member of the team I used my strength, which is summarising and preparing the content after studying the research and notes given by my team member, who is the researcher.
Hui Min: During the course of this competition, I picked up new skills and learnt new things. Before taking part in this ThinkQuest, I did not have much practice using Adobe Flash. Due to the nature of our webpage, Flash had a crucial part and I used it frequently. The practice upgraded my skills as I learnt new things about Flash. Another aspect in which Thinkquest has improved me is my EQ. My team's topic is on body language, and it is important to be able to understand it is it is as a big part of human communication. The research also taught us valuable information which we can relate to our lives. The challenges I faced would be finding time to meet up with my group members. I had to go on a holiday during the March holidays. However, I managed to plan my time accordingly.
Jia Yu: After researching on this topic, my knowledge on the subject has increased and I feel much more at ease communicating with others. I have done researches before so I used this skill to work my way through this project.
Ann Vanessa Sim: My strength is research. I honed my research skills through the process of this project.
Team Diversity
Our major diversity is the age differences amongst us. The differences in age helped us to see different perspectices and made us think about what we were trying to convey. As a senior, (the leader) Shi Hui had to understand what do the junior members think and feel about the subject matter and do they agree with the information researched. Moreover the juniors also gave their idea about what they think would appeal to a younger set of audience when it comes to understanding body language.
At the same time, the team consists of Taoists and Christians. Our understanding of body language in relation to our religious beliefs is also different. What Taoists see as `humble' exhibited through the way one stands or sits can be interpreted as something that is `subservient' in the eyes of a Christian. Therefore a team, this group had to come to a consensus to agree on a set of body language signals that are universally acceptable. This was a real test for all the team members. But, at the end of the day all of them were happy with the end-result and completed their presentation giving their 100% commitment.
