Researching the Brain
1999
Researching the Brain is an intriguing study of various
functions of the brain such as Yawning, Vomiting, Chronic Pain,
Brain Mapping, and Brain Fitness, as well as more personal topics
related to the brain such as "Shaken Baby Syndrome", "Nicotine
and You", and "Common Diseases and Disorders."
This web site has great "kid appeal" to elementary and middle
school students as it was conceived, researched and written
by these kinds of students. The goals of this project are to:
(1.)provide an opportunity for high-performing, technology-
inclined students to achieve high standards, both academically
and socially, as they created a web site(2.)provide an opportunity
for students to apply the basic literacy skills of reading,
research and writing skills(3.)develop artistic and creative
skills through graphic designs, games and animated illustrations
(4.)apply advanced technology skills and work cooperatively
to create a meaningful web site for themselves and others to
enjoy. All of the above goals support the Mission and Strategic
Plan of Jefferson county R-1 Schools and help students develop
and refine skills which will prepare them for a successful
future. The brain is in the 6th grade curriculum.
