We worked together and planned our project on Valluvar
according to our abilities . Vigneswaran’s strength was the language and the other four of us concentrated upon fitting the thoughts in a template chosen by us after a lot of meandering trips on the internet..We have taken this immortal poetic work as our subject for Thinkquest because we wanted to share our wonderment at the amazing forethought of the author. We decided to make the wisdom of this weaver poet known to Thinkquest audience all over the world. Valluvar has listed, before 2000 years, all that ails the societies today and without stopping, there, tells us what principles to follow to correct world’s wayward ways.Thiruvalluvar’s works include 1330 couplets:so dealing with all the 1330 couplets is beyond the scope of this project .
We began template hunting and our browsing for the first few weeks gave us the fear that we will never easily settle for one. At last we decided upon Flash captivated by the breathtaking possibilities and our humble effort is built on its platform. We did not take any professional help at any stage. The whole design is the result of our team’s collaborative efforts. We planmed and divided responsibilities and tasks, but kept our concentration intact and shared our views. A little reality show made us attempt even writing on palm leaves to see how difficult or easy it will be. Vigneshwaran's effort was the best. A video clip was captured by Avinash. We also attempted a few drawings depicting some couplets. We learnt to overcome challenges as we did have initial diffculties with language and facts but these vanished when we got steeped in the flood of material of Valluvar’s Thirukural and how the world has received it.
Our school’s annual calendar has a permanent slot for Think Quest in Jan –March. Student volunteers are invited to join in a competition to select the four or five member team. Those who have talent for design work and writing are chosen and the year’s “Think Quest” team is put together. This year,we five became part of the lucky team. Our Coach and assistant coach helped us to choose the subject of Quest. It was a topic under “Books and Literature” category, as our seniors in the earlier years have explored Religion, and Medicines and have had the huge satisfaction of having their pages posted in the Think Quest Library.
We were already familiar with the poetry of Thiruvalluvar through our school prayer. Daily in the morning assembly, we recite a passage each from Bible,Quran and Vedas. Along with these, we also sing a couplet from Valluvar’s works.that says discipline and character are more precious than even life.We belong to different states of India and speak different languages . Yet we were unified here to learn and understand a language which is not our mother tongue and exam in depth the literature in it . One of our team belongs to Chennai and he happened to know Tamil and was automatically nominated to be the interpreter and help all of us to grab the content in the right perspective. At the end of the project, we realized we have learnt a lot of vocabulary in Tamil to keep us going in Chennai, apart from benefiting from the saint poet’s words of wisdom.
