The HOPEnetwork

2000
The HOPEnetwork, the creation of ThinkQuest Team C001247, is an interactive journey through the world of cancer. The HOPEnetwork (HOPE standing for "Health Of People Everywhere") attempts to create the perfect learning environment by combining skillfully crafted educational articles covering 27 major types of cancer, an interactive quiz that rates your susceptibility to cancer, an interview with a medical oncologist, information targeted directly for patients and patient's families, and chat rooms, downloads, bulletin boards, and more! The HOPEnetwork, with its interactive portion (the iHOPEnetwork) and various other sections, was not created to be an art form. The HOPEnetwork was created with one purpose in mind: to facilitate learning about cancer in an appealing environment. The creators of the HOPEnetwork hope they have created this type of environment, where learning could be entertaining, if nothing else but to save one person from contracting one of the deadliest incurable diseases known to man: cancer.

Cancer: A Massacre on Mankind?

1999
Today, the Big C, Cancer is a worldwide number one killer. We choose this topic as our thinkquest competition to educate the people in the world. To let them know and understand more about the disease. Our entry is to create awareness and to educate people to live a healthy lifestyle in order to stay away from the disease. It is also to provide help to patients suffering from cancer. They will learn more about their illness and can get help appropriately. We used 2 main colours black and red for our cover page. It is to create an atmosphere to cancer being dark and deadly. In the main page, we have icons which link to various different areas, like: a. What is cancer? b. Causes of Cancer c. Treatment to cancer d. Prevent of cancer e. Different types of cancer f. Pictures g. Credits h. Acknowledge. Under each of the chapter, we also have write out on the various sub-chapters like: a. Causes of cancer i. Stress ii. Free radical iii. Environment iv. Diet. b. Treatment i. Surgery ii. Radiation iii. Chemotherapy iv. Biological therapies v. Bone marrow transplant vi. Hormones c. Prevention i. Diet ii. Psychological iii. Life styles iv. Environment d. Types of cancer i. Lung Cancer ii. Breast Cancer iii. Prostrate Cancer iv. Stomach Caner v. Oesophagus vi. Gynaecologic e. Credits i. Contact information ii. Other helpful books f. Acknowledgement i. Research Under each category, we will introduce the new theory and explain them to the public thoroughly. For example in the various types of cancer, we will include the causes, symptoms and treatment. As for the causes, people will be able to prevent themselves from doing or eating what it may cause them to a danger of getting the cancer. As for symptoms, people will be able to detect weather they are suffering from the cancer and go for treatment at an earlier stage and get will at a faster pace too. As for treatment patients will understand what they are going through and what treatment the doctors are giving them. More or less they can control they own live by knowing them. Cancer can be prevented. It all depends on weather you are inviting the disease to trigger off in your body. We can prevent them to areas like our diet, our environment, our lifestyle and the way we think. After understanding the causes of cancer and the ways to prevent them I believe all of us will be at a lower risk of getting the disease. Of course all of us have cancer cells in our body but it all depend on the individual if we let them trigger off and become harmful cancerous cell. However, cancer sometime is hereditary and there is no way to prevent them. Nevertheless, there are also patients who suffered cancer because of external factors. Thus if there is a way to let us understand and make ourselves far from the disease why not go for it. The is why we choose cancer as our topics.
