Earthquakes, I'm All Shook UP

2003
Earthquakes happen when the Earth's continental plates can not take the stress of pushing on each other and they give way. All of the energy that the plates were storing up while they were pushing on each other is released all at one time. The energy released moves in a wave away from the source, epicenter, causing the earth to tremble and shake. Hundreds of tiny earthquakes happen every day around the world.

A Wonderful World - Earth

2001
Visitors to this educational web site will learn about rocks and minerals. They will enter the Global Museum and take a tour of different rooms containing pictures and information about types of rocks, crystals, minerals, gems, birthstones, metals, meteorites, and volcanoes. They also will learn about the history of the Earth and about plate tectonics. In addition to these rooms there is a literature room where visitors can learn about fantasy books that use gems as a symbol of magic. There are many hands-on areas in the museum too: a game room with interactiv games, a crystal garden where visitors can do a science experiment, and a scout workshop. At the scout workshop, boy and girl scouts can work on geology merit badge requirements. We would like visitors to learn and have some fun.

The ground beneath...

1999
Basically, our project is about Plate Tectonics, the resultant landforms of tectonic processes, as well as the effects on the Physical and Human environment. Therefore the title "The ground beneath...". The content of the page would cover the brief history of Pangaea, structure of the Earth, how and why plates move and the types of plate movements. Also included are how folding and faulting can occur when the plates diverge or converge. How fold mountains, block mountains, rift valleys are formed will also be explained. In the webpage itself, we intend to include a section on earthquakes and volcanoes as they are the most common effects and features that occur during the plate movement. There would be detailed explanations as well as diagrams to accompany and enhanced the webpage. Besides all these, a message board and a search engine on our site to make searching of information easier and more efficient.
