This entry fills a need for information on endangered species of New Jersey. The only site that has this information are a few pages on the state's site. We had their "blessing" in making our site. This site gives information on each of the over 60 species by categories (mammals, reptiles, etc.) It also has pages on general topic about endangered species (causes, ways to help etc.) Since endangered species is studied in almost every elementary school in the country, we think our site will generate a lot of interest. There is information for teachers & students (a teacher page, TQ site diary, question board etc.)We stressed content over flash and followed the concept of "Think globally, act locally."

Polar bears - the largest predator on land is facing a grave danger and are on the verse of becoming extinct by several dangers - the dangers man has cultivated in the field, he terms as development. The increasing global warming has made the polar ice melt.
Polar bears can be identified as the most beautiful specie on the earth.
In our project we have identified the polar bears as the mascot for the devastation to be caused by global warming in the near future.

The team was concerned about endangered animals around the world. They decided to create a web site about these animals in the hope that sharing information about endangered animals would encourage the web page viewers to care for and to care about these animals at risk. The students were asked to select a topic which was related to the NC Standard Course of Study at their fifth grade level. They brainstormed to select the topic and the goals for their site. The educational objectives for the project included the following: 1. that the learners would demonstrate higher level thinking skills 2. that the learners would explore a wide range of resources and interact in an information intense environment 3. that the learners would identify and apply strategies to access, evaluate, use, and communicate information 4. that the learners would develop an understanding of and appreciation for the nature of science.

This project was an optional way to do their research project. This project incorporates the 3 "T's" - what some say has replaced the 3 "R's" in education. Those 3 "T's" are Technology, Teamwork and Thinking. In order to be successful in this day and age, students must be adept at all three. The parents of my students, as well as the technology department of my district, are in wholehearted support of these objectives. In addition to the skills the students have learned, the parents of my students also feel that their children have learned very valuable, life-long lessons as well.

About this site

We designed our site to teach people more about endangered species. We organized our information into four categories: Land Animals, Plants, Birds, and Sea mammals. We wanted everyone to realize that all kinds of living things are endangered. We have information about 11 different endangered species, including the reasons why they are endangered. We included a locator map so that you can see the area of the world each animal is found. We created a scrambled word game and a picture puzzle game, and used a Java Script template from the Internet to make it interactive online. we also included links to some resources people can use to find out more about our endangered species and about how we can all help them. We also want to hear from people about how they are involved in helping and the things they do at their schools. to do this we included a message box. We want to post some of the school projects on our site to help other people get ideas of things to do. We hope that by learning more about endangered species people will be aware of the things that we do that can harm plants and animals, and will be more careful about the things they do. Once endangered species are gone, they are gone forever. We rely on any of these plants and animals, and some we may not even know about. We can't bring them back if we don't start now. We hope that by learning more everyone will get involved.

St. Thomas' educational objective for this entry has two main thrusts:
1. to expand on the students' knowledge of endangered species that they have already learned as part of their fourth grade unit on Florida
2. to become familiar with varied sources of currently available information, and to be able to assimilate this information into a well-written and documented multi-media presentation.
Knowing that people from around the country would be reading their work, the students were particularly careful about doing accurate research, and in conducting careful editing sessions, on their own work, and on the work of their
teammates. They worked very hard on their writing so that it would be clear for others to read.
Being able to include drawings and photographs, create background colors, link to and for to other pages are new--and extremely exciting--parts of this experience.

There are two main educational objectives to this web page. The first objective is to educate others about greater sandhill cranes. Education is the first step in conservation. If we can educate others then we can begin to work towards conserving the cranes and the places where they live. The way we learn more about cranes is the same way scientists learn. By learning how to radio track we learn more about being scientists and we learn more about the environment and can then teach others. The second objective is to educate others about the issues involved in conserving the cranes. Hunting is one issue in conserving cranes. Some people want to hunt cranes and others want to protect them. We need to learn more about cranes before lawmakers can make a decision. It is a very emotional issue and helps to show how important cranes are to some people. By bringing up the issue, people are focused on the importance of cranes and their habitats. Maybe once people realize the importance of cranes and the places where they live, people will work harder to protect them.
