About this site

Indigenous Australiana is a site about the Australian Aborigines and their links to their past beliefs and culture and present day existance in European society.
This site is a new site that has been redeveloped from the Adnyanathanha Aborigines of South Australia site created by these students entered last year.
The Adnyanathanha group from the South Australian Flinders Ranges is covered in depth. Through the use of various media, the site aims to develop a wide variety of skills and broader knowledge about the Australian Aboriginal groups for people of all ages. It aims to develop a better understanding of the Australian Aboriginal culture and to counter negative stereotypes. The site focuses on the Dreaming stories of the Adnyamathanha people as well as thier environment, language, lifestyle, technology and visual arts. It also discusses the subject of reconciliation between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians and the eight key issues involved.
There is an extensive activities section for teachers and students of primary and secondary schooling. It covers language, art, cultural and extended learning activities such as acrostic, image and word recongnition, crosswords with movable letters, scenes with moveable images, planning camp sites, analysing dreaming stories, critical thinking and source analysis activities.
Frequent meetings were held as we found that we were able to work more effectively when working closely with each other. It was difficult to find free time as every one had to balance other commitments.

"The World Health Organization estimates that the majority of the population of most non-industrial countries still relies on traditional forms of medicine for everyday health care. In many countries up to 80-90% of the population are in this category".(1)
African countries have a long tradition of medicinal plant use. Traditional healers play an enormous role in providing health care to the majority of Africans. Often they are the first health care providers to be consulted, especially in rural areas. Communities all over Africa are faced with the challenge of incorporating indigenous medicine into mainstream medical care.
We will focus on the challenge in South Africa where traditional medicine and consultation with healers is part of the fabric of the cultural and spiritual life of the majority of people.
It is estimated that at least 70% of all South Africans consult one of the more than 200000 Traditional Healers practicing in the country. We need to find out what what Indigenous medicine is and whether or not it could be incorporated into mainstream health care.
We aim is to use Critical thinking to explore:
*alternatives to western type medicines- worldviews that take into account mental, social, physical and ecological dimensions of health and well being.
*different cultural/medicinal practices and remedies
*incorporating traditional indigenous medical practices into mainstream Medicare.
*engender cross-cultural understanding through finding out about different cultural/medicinal practices and remedies

Too many people think that they are nomadic tribes... but if we look in whichever dictionary or encyclopedia for the word NOMAD we can find: wanderer, roamer. Nowadays, the scientists aspire to delete "the white spots" - the acks - in the humain's history by the archeologie, the paleontologie, the linguistics, the numismatics. In that way, we can retrace the cultural evolution in Balkan - Aegean region and show it to you. And after a look to our entry - reading about the name, the native land, the migration, the social, political and economical relations, the mythologie, the arts etc. of the Thracions - it's up to you to answer the question "Are the Thracians nomadic tribes?"...
