The Fractory: An Interactive Tool for Creating and Exploring Fractals

1996
Fractals are chaos and order, math and beauty. This is a well-designed multi-level exploration of a simple yet infinitely complex world. View the impressive designs and try your hand at creating your own. Learn why scientists--in fields from astronomy to economics--feel that fractals can help predict seemingly random occurrences. And those really into the math can discover who Julia and Mandelbrot are, and how complex numbers are used to plot a fractal.
About this site

PatternPalace

2002
PatternPalace is in the Kingdom of Patterns. Its subjects and rulers all look for and learn about patterns, in math, nature, art, words, and science. Interactive puzzles and exercises.
About this site

Fractals and Chaos

1999
Its goal is to educate high school students (with backgrounds in algebra) about chaos theory and fractals, with a conceptual overview, historical references, and also some fractal math.

Fractals Unleashed

1999
For centuries mathematicians rejected complex figures, leaving them under a single description: formless. For centuries geometry was unable to describe trees, landscapes, clouds, and coastlines. However, in the late 1970s a revolution of our perception of the world was brought by the work of Benoit Mandelbrot. He introduced and developed the theory of fractals -- figures that were truly able to describe these shapes. The theory was continued to be used in a variety of applications. Out website will show fractals importance in areas ranging from special TV effects to economy and biology. Besides applications it will contain a course on fractals, making the user familiar with topics of various difficulties. The website will have an enhanced section on generating fractals, and the user will have a chance to create fractals using a Java applet.

Wise Turtle Stories

1998
This web site will teach you about the programming language Logo, and how it's used to draw spirals, wheels, and fractals. The "philosophy" of each shape is presented along with models. Once you read about the creation of each shape you may want to try the Logo language yourself! The bibliography includes traditional and electronic sources.

Chaos, Randomness, and Fractal Geometry

1996
Welcome to what some might call the scientific version of Beauty (art) and the Beast (math). This site examines and explains Chaos Theory, Dynamic Systems, and Fractal Geometry. Explore the concepts of how things can be simple yet complex, orderly yet random. Find out how complicated math can create simply beautiful fractal designs and how these theories are being used by scientists in their attempts to solve some of the unexplained mysteries of science.
