Have you ever seen the vast and green Salt Lake and the multi-colored and shaped and jady salt crystal? Do you know how the edible salt is made from the Qarhan Salt Lake in Qinghai, what other minerals are produced from the Salt Lake and why the Qarhan Salt Lake is reputed as a white treasure lake? If your answer is no, let’s take a scientific exploration to a world of salt. Teaching objectives of this project and expected results: We may have known something about the Salt Lake from legends, stories and its history. But some of us may not have the chance to go in depth into the essence and the mystery of the Salt Lake culture throughout all his/her life. However, it is still our earnest expectation to provide an utmost opportunity to our students for their active study through such interesting activities like Chinese learning, field study, expert interview and experiments with the assistance of the “thinkquest”. These activities are designed to lead them to seek the truth under the surface, raise up questions frankly, learn the knowledge actively and learn to communicate with others through an easy, think independently, do planned teamwork, help them acquire positive emotional experience and develop their spirit of exploration. What’s more, we hope the children can feel the nature with their heart, feel the change, the grandness and vastness of the Salt Lake, thus they are enlightened to love, appreciate and respect the nature and bear the responsibility of nature protection.

Under the guidance of the coach,students were divided to 3 groups to collect information. Through the information collection process, raised students’ observing ability and the contacting ability; through the process of organizing information trained students to summarize and analyze information, improved their systems thinking ability, language ability and expressing ability. Finally, through the introducing process trained students’ language expression ability.

Through the operation of the project,students shall learn considerable knowledge about the salt lakes of Qinghai. Further, with a series of propagating activities, more people from schools, families, as well as the society will come to know about Qinghai, and students' affection for their hometown—Qinghai will be strengthened. Also, their abilities as to teamwork cooperation and innovative thinking shall be improved. Curriculum Standard: Extracurricular comprehensive learning of the Chinese course shall be carried out with the guidance of Standards of Chinese Courses (Experimental Manuscript), based on Lesson 10 in Textbook No. 1 of Guchengtai Primary School and local students' background knowledge. The project shall take various forms of learning: investigations and studies, field visits and face-to-face interviews, etc, thereby promoting students' learning abilities. Expected Results: Through the project, students shall preliminarily learn to exchange information, discuss about cultures and share their resources by means of internet. The project will also explore the power of the team with a series of well-planed, effective propagating activities. Moreover, students' awareness of intellectual property rights will also be cultivated by marking citations. The progress of the project will help enrich the knowledge of students from both schools on salt lake areas will be enriched. During the execution of the project, the team will participate in a series of activities, including:  inviting an ISL doctor to the school to give a lecture,  disseminating salt knowledge in aided schools,  running bulletin boards on salt lakes,  individually disseminating the knowledge on campus, and  extending the propagation to families. The project will not only disseminate salt and salt lake knowledge to classes, schools and families, enabling more people to know about Qinghai salt lakes by the activities of the team, but also publicizing this way of learning with the involvement of classes, schools, and families. With the growth of their understanding of salt lake areas, students will learn to exchange information, collect, arrange and reprocess resources, and assimilate them in the form of individual learning achievements. They will constantly communicate, understand, influence and encourage one another, resulting in a brilliant study group. All threads they record will soundly represent the process they come to know about the world, and also the process by which readers come to know them. Through reading their topics, the readers will have a good understanding of salt lake areas and get to know these lovely students.

The Chinese Lion Dance

We searched many legends and historical stories about the lion dance. The most important process is making the lion head by ourselves. It was an exciting experience for us. Although this was the hardest step in our project, we we still finish the lion head at all.
