Team Collaboration
At the beginning of the school year, through the encouragement of the teacher of computer studies, a group was formed specially for this competition. At first we agreed on a topic, then we had meetings weekly. To start with, we collected sources, texts, pictures, all kinds of information about chocolate. When we had some idea of what we wanted to write about, we made an outline (a plan of the site's menu). Then the team was divided into two parts. There were some who worked on the content, read many books, visited museums, collected info and pictures of any kind and worked out a topic in connection with chocolate (Reni, Bianka, Balu and Misi). The other half of the team worked on the computer and designed and programmed the website (Lali, David and the assistant, Ildiko).
At the weekly meetings, everybody showed the others what he/she did the last week and we collected new ideas, corrected mistakes and set the task for the next week. But indeed there was not a strict division between the two sub-groups, because everybody contributed some ideas. For example, Misi had the idea of the globe falling into two, the coach gave the idea of the bonbon box as a main menu and the bonbon buttons in the inside menu. Most of the design was made by Lali. He collected pictures, did the programming, and produced Reni's gallery. As he has a music-centered family, his father and sister helped with music for the intro video. In Reni's gallery we can hear him playing the piano. Misi collected recipes and illustrations. Balu worked out the topic Growing, Bianca had the topic of Producing, Reni had History. But I can say that all of them were very helpful and gave a hand to each other in scanning or typing.
David was not at the meetings in person, because he attends another school in the same institution. The assistant was in touch with him. He helped in programming, worked on flash files and also worked out the topic of health. There were others too who eagerly provided guidance, although they were not in the team. Many students took part in the experiment that we had at our school and filled out a questionnaire made by Ildiko, about their chocolate eating habits. We are all very thankful to the English teachers of our school, who reviewed our translation of the texts into English, and Shelly, who read the manuscripts. Getting nearer the deadline every one of us got more enthusiastic and we met more often. We still don't feel it is perfectly finished, but we hope we can share a drop of that sweetness we enjoyed during this project.
Team Diversity
Our team was not dull at all, it had a certain diversity.
First of all, in my opinion, it is a great challenge for boys and girls to work together at this age.
Secondly, there is David, who doesn't attend our school, so we couldn't meet him very often, except the last week. We contacted him through the assistant or e-mail.
Furthermore, nowadays here in Hungary we have a serious problem with minorities, but we can proudly say, that one of the key persons in our team was Lali, who belongs to them. We didn't have any fights or arguments with each other. Thank God.
