Humans often fear what they do not understand: the dark, monsters, animals that look or behave different than they do themselves. The broad objectives of "Creatures of the Night and You" are to help children understand nocturnal sights and sounds, dispel any fears, and encourage them to enjoy their evenings outside by explaining the night. Our entry does this through descriptions of the biology, physiology, astronomy, and mythology of the night, along with intriguing pictures, participatory activities, and actual sounds. The many different navigational paths allow the student to begin exploring those areas that interest him or her most, yet still be free to return easily to other areas. Areas will help the student understand the physical difference between nocturnal, crepuscular and diurnal creatures, identify constellations and differentiate stars, galaxies, and comets, and recognize the noises of the night as the language of specific creatures

Anyone, from a child too young to read to a highly educated scientist, can learn from observing birds in their natural surroundings: Birds offer insight into geography, habitats, and adaptability; the food chain, predators and prey, and competitors; and the relationships among people, the environment, and animals. "Birding" is a hobby that can be enjoyed anywhere in the world, at any time, and that requires little or no investment. We hope that anyone visiting our web site will become interested in birds and become more aware of environmental issues. We picked links to other bird sites around the world that we think will make readers want to learn more about the birds and their environment somewhere away from home.

"Be Pet Smart" is a Web site on humane education of animals who become our pets. It teaches children how to choose the right pet and how to care for it. We provide information on 8 different kinds of animals that make good pets, and personal things to consider when choosing a pet.
A "wish list" is included specifically for our viewers in Hawaii, who can contribute items to the Hawaiian Humane Society. Viewers from other states should contact their local animal shelters (humane societies) to find out how they can help.
One of our team members wrote a poem about a pet who runs away from his owner because of being abused. He finds refuge at the pet shelter until new, humane owners can be found.
We provide an award which can be printed out and completed with viewers' names after they visit our site and receive humane education on animals.

A sponge, or porifera, is the most primitive and ancient metazoan animal. It is a means by which to understand the geologic past and our own identity. However, there is much more than that. Despite simplicity, sponge chemicals, used to fend off predators, may manifest themselves as a cure for cancer-which affects everyone!
Although porifera offer so much for humanity, awareness is minimal. It seems that only scientists or professors are well-versed in sponge knowledge. Even minimal insight is beyond the reach of many. Our mission was to increase knowledge of porifera, provide insight to everyone, offer ways for teachers to inform their students, and maintain a vivid atmosphere.
In order to fulfill our objectives, our site is divided into different areas. Level 1 is devoted to the introduction of younger students to sponge biology. It discusses porifera biology in elementary terms and defines scientific terms. This level is organized for easy use by younger individuals. Level 2 is a more developed page. In this area, the information is extensive and informative. It is actually more voluminous than any other web site discussing porifera, and it features information pertaining to anatomy, habitats, history, processes, studies (chemical, taxonomical, hermit-crab), and taxonomy. In Level 3, teachers from elementary school to high school may download lesson plans, information organizers, creative thinking activities, and quizzes to teach informative courses about sponge biology. Sections are specialized to meet the needs of all students. Also, our site includes special features to enhance it.

Our entry teaches people about animals of the world. It includes animal profiles from all the continents except Antartica. Our educational purpose is to A) give other students educational animal information. B) provide a fun learning experience C) educate the world about animals, so that they realize these animals are amazing, and that we should protect them from becoming extinct. Each profile includes key facts about the animals: size, habitats, habits, food, and man. This should be easy to read for school reports, school projects, or just for learning new facts. Because we do not know everything about the animals, we found other web sites that kids can visit. Our teacher said that students learn best when they can do a project hands-on, so we offer educational activities With the quizzes, you can take a quiz on each continent's animals, based on the information in the animla profiles. The mystery animal is in our profiles and wegive you clues that you can figure out. We also have an animal search engine, an animal list, a guestbook, and an e-mail addressto contact us.

The goal of USA Wildlife is to instruct children on animals that live in the United States in a fun interactive way. USA Wildlife was created by children for childrn. As students visit the web site, they will encounter three classifications of animals: Birds, Fish, and Mammals. Students will click on a region of the United States and encounter animals that are indigenous to that region. Participants are then able to click on specific examples of that region's wildlife. Within each region is a description of the animal's habitat, lifestyle, and diet. After students have become thoroughly familiar with USA Wildlife, they will have the opportunity to assess their knowledge. The quiz provides immediate feedback as to whether the participants answered the question correctly. The educational objective of USA Wildlife is to identify characteristics and recall facts about animals that live in the United States.

The entry includes information about the koala.
Our team investigated several aspects of the koala.
This includes diet, habitat, life cycles, picture gallery,
and other information. We created a quiz to have people test
what they learned from our site. We needed to learn how
to develop a web page, share information and analyze
data gathered. We also learned how to look at an internet
site and see if it was any good. We still used books and
reference materials. At the last minute we learned a lot
about how to do a bibliography the right way.

We decided to create an educational Web page that could be used by Elementary School age children to research information on animals from around the world. The idea came about because of the proximity of our School to the world famous San Diego Zoo. Each student, including myself, has visited the zoo many times enjoying the wonder of some of earth's creatures and felt that it would be nice to share some of them with other students around our nation and the world who are not fortunate enough to have a zoo in their city or town. The objective of the site is to provide basic information and a photograph for ten mammals, ten birds, and ten reptiles in an easy to follow layout. We hope you enjoy the efforts of Toler's 4th and 5th grade web design team.

This project was an optional way to do their research project. This project incorporates the 3 "T's" - what some say has replaced the 3 "R's" in education. Those 3 "T's" are Technology, Teamwork and Thinking. In order to be successful in this day and age, students must be adept at all three. The parents of my students, as well as the technology department of my district, are in wholehearted support of these objectives. In addition to the skills the students have learned, the parents of my students also feel that their children have learned very valuable, life-long lessons as well.

Under the Incredible Blue Sea is a page designed for younger elementary students. It is a compilation of information on sea organisms. The information is displayed in a way that should be easy for young students to access. The terminology used is simplistic, and each fact is bulleted so that it can be found quickly. It is our hope that this site will encourage K-3 age students to learn more about marine organisms. While the information given is not in-depth, it is written in a way that is simple for tudents to comprehend.

Our entrys focus is on the Canine genera- the domestic dog. We have made efforts to impart as much information on Dogs to our viewers. Basically, what forms the bulk of our project are guidelines on caring for dogs. These mainly include Grooming Your Dog, Training Your Dog and A Dogs Health. We have included other section like How to choose the right Dog and Breeding for interested potential dog breeders. There are seven groups of dogs and they are listed in our site as well. Steps were also taken to include brief descriptions of certain selected breeds. In addition, our project also bears a Picture Gallery which stores a few pictures of dogs of particular breeds. The objective here is to allow our viewers to get to know the large variety of breeds. However, our main objective set for this project is to have more people come to know this animal better. We hope that they will come to understand Canine behavior more, to know what counts when selecting a dog, to be familiar with the superficial steps to caring for a dog etc. Be it whether they are Canine experts or ordinary Homo Sapiens who are not at all interested in this mammal. All we are aiming for is to open everyone to the world of the Canine Specie with the approach that we used- informal but yet detailed.

Our web site is about some of the strange and unusual creatures that are found around the world. We wanted people to see and learn about animals that they may never have seen or heard of before. We divided it into 4 sections : mammals, Birds, Reptiles, and Insects. each section describes some weird animals and includes pictures or drawings. We designed a games section that is a fun way for people to test what they learned about the animals and to help them remember the information. We have a page of links where people can find out more about these animals and other weird creatures. We wanted people to know about some of the unusual animals that are not well known. People should know about them because some are endangered and need to be protected. We thought these animals were interesting, and that other people would, too. We need to appreciate and understand about all of the life on Earth. And, we liked the fact that they were weird !

What You Always Wanted to Know About Snakes is set up to
inform others about snakes. A Facts page was created with
short facts that other kids can read and learn from easily.
Snakes are feared by many people and we thought that we would
include some useful information to help people realize that
snakes aren't meaning to scare or harm humans. A glossary was
included to help others to look up some of the words on the
page about specific snakes. The games page was added to give
other kids a chance to see what they learned using a fun
activity.

We designed this project to give information on rodents. We did it because we know a lot of people that don't really know that much about rodents so they think all rodents are like mice and rats. We've had them, we like them, and we know a little about them. We also did a lot of research so that people would know about the rodents in the wild as well as the rodents as pets. We hope our site teaches others what we've learned.

The educational objectives were for the team to research ocean animals, then select and highlight three. The students were to learn to use the Internet to review other web pages for things that they liked or disliked about the design of that specific web page. The team learned to use Microsoft Publisher as their web page design tool. They discussed copyright issues and learned to incorporate additional web graphic software. They selected a team member to illustrate two of their animals and learned to scan this into their web page. The students learned to incorporate a video capture device called a Snappy.

The educational objective of "Pandas In Action" was for the students to create an educational website. They as a team had to decide upon a topic that would sustain their interest for 2 months. They had to do the research on the internet to find the content they wanted to include. Once this was accomplished, they needed to learn how to create their website in Publisher. This was all quite challenging for this 4th grade team.

The primary purpose was to develop a web page that would help students learn about a unique Alaskan (circumpolar) animal. This was to be achieved as though looking through the eyes of the wolveriine. We wanted students to see the variety of animals and landforms which are common to the wolverine. We felt thaat they would gain a much better understanding of the wolverine's territory by using the fairly extensive glossary.
