Bipolar disorder affects the brain so that unusual shifts causes episodes of mania and depression. These shifts in mood can cause damage in one's personal and work life. This disorder affects 2.4 million adults in the United States. This disorder may affect anyone, no matter the sex, race, and/or religion. The bipolar disorder becomes evident during the early adulthood of a person. The disorder is also a long-term illness that can be managed like diabetes. Different symptoms occur at multiple stages of the disorder resulting in instantaneous reactions. These reactions can result in careless decisions to the extreme of suicide. Bipolarism is often a neglected disorder in our society due to ignorance. People with bipolar disorder can be treated to live an average life. This site will provide an overview of the fundamentals, treatment options, assistance centers, and effects of this disorder.

"What makes a 5th grader tick?" is an interactive web site designed to challenge intermediate elementary students to deal with personal issues in their lives. Some issues covered include the following: 1) Do I know why I am someone special? 2) Do I know what put-ups/put-downs are and how they make people feel? 3) Do I know how to express my anger without hurting others or myself? 4) Do I know how to be a good friend? 5) Do I know what peer pressure is? 6) Do I cooperate with others? 7) Do I know why it is important to talk about my feelings? 8) Do I know what I look for in a friend? 9) Am I truthful and honest? 10) Do I know what I need to work on?, and 11) Do I know what I value? With a professional therapist's help the team was able to open themselves up and discuss these and other questions in depth. A second survey was designed and administered by the team. Some of the issues covered in this survey included: the things the students enjoy, like, want, what they are good at, and what they love. Two quizzes are included on the web site to help visitors with their comprehension of the subject matter.

The entry explores those unique aspects of human thinking. The first
tab looks at some of the landmark thinking model developers by era,
which we call "thinking history." Secondly, we examine some of the
physical aspects with a dynamic model of the brains control area
in a two-frame JavaScript popup window. This section examines
learning theories and language as a cognitive skill set. Thirdly,
we examine classical reasoning processes: syllogisms, classification,
and illustrate the rules of proper thinking with stuffed animal
examples. Fourthly, we move into scientific method and some
simple statistical theory. After all this theory, we cover
modern symbolism with illustrated truth tables. The most extensive
coverage, both theory and illustration, is of argument formation
theory. We take an intermission with a bivalue logic game page
and then finish off with logic and fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic is
a very difficult concept to present. We have tried to simplify
the theory by illustrating that this type of logic model tries
to accomodate the fact that objects change over time. Thus, the
static theories of Aristotle's "pure" logical model where every
object can be put into its set or class, breaks down through
morphology. Section 9 deals more with the details of the
educational objectives (see below).

We felt that students who are experiencing a divorce may not understand some of the events that may take place in their lives. We have learned through our support group that sharing information with those who have lived through a divorce can be very helpful. We think that the web page can be useful in helping teachers to understand the warning signs of a child experiencing coping problems during a divorce. The web page will also help parents to understand what a child is feeling and how they can help a child at home.
