Our Earth is getting too polluted so we want to move to another planet. This site will teach our viewers about Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Moon, and Mars. They will learn if there is water, what kind of soil that planet has, and how far it is from Earth to that planet. They will also learn if we could live on that planet. When the viewer goes to the planet or moon, he or she will have to do tests on what kind of soil that planet has, water tests to find out if there is water, and will have to find the distances to the planet. Site visitors will also have to do a lot of thinking and picking to what is the correct answer. We also compared Hawaiian Voyaging with Space Voyaging. We compared the tools they use to navigate, the food they ate, jobs they had, and their daily life on the shuttle and canoe.

Our entry does have "space" as its subject. We try to give a compact and understnadeble overview of our solar system and the different objects in it.
The sun, the nine planets, comets, meteorites are mentioned and explained. Because the vastnes of it all, we tried to give an impression of the distances and sizes in the solar system. we did place this in the context of the much, much wider dimensions of the Milky Way galaxy and the total universe.
We think that it could be an easy guide for a first acquantance with these subjects.

About this site

The web page focused strongly on design and visual quality. Many of the web pages the team members visited during their research were simply not visually appealing. Journey into the Heavens is an attempt to provide users with a good, basic understanding of astronomy, our solar system, and the evolution of the universe. Journey is also an attempt to put this information in a form that was visually appealing. The universe is such as vast and beautiful place and the text-based web pages on the internet now are simply not a reflection of that.
DHTML and layers were an attempt by the designers to reduced the time between the loading of pages. When the page originally loads in takes slightly longer, but it saves time in the end as users do not have to wait for every page to reload after following a link.

About this site
1999
Our educational internet site provides information about the nine planets in our solar system. Our site is intended to be an informational and reference type site, more than an instructional site.
We have used Bryce 3-D by Meta Creations (TM) to create the main images of the planets on our site. We also used nine images of the planets from NASA. These were taken by the Hubble space telescope and the Mariner and Voyager I and II space probes. We received most of our data from books on the planets written by Seymour Simon, the web page The Nine Planets, and World Book Encyclopedia. We pieced together the information in our own words and format (charts).
Our educational objectives for elementary school students are:
* students will know the order of the planets from the sun outward
* students will know the number of moons for each planet
* students will know each planets approximate distance from the sun
* students will know the diameter (size) of each planet
* students will know the temperatures (and temperature extremes) on each planet
* students will have an understanding that days and years on each planet are different from those here on Earth, and will know time lengths relative to ours on Earth
* students will know other interesting facts, exceptions, and oddities about individual planets (rings, rotational oddities, atmospheric conditions, etc.).

SolarTours is the first travellers agency to the planets of our solar system. Everyone who wants to learn more about our solar system and everything attached to it, can visit SolarTours. The site provides its visitors with great amounts of information, explaining in simple terms, but nonetheless reaching even deeper and harder subjects.
The specifications of every planet and satellite of our solar system are given, along with their mythological background or name explanation and their most remarkable aspects. It also states when the planet was discovered, when the satellites and rings were discovered and the most important source of data.
The Sun is also discussed, telling how it was created and what will become of the fiery ball in the sky. Several types of stars are also discussed to put our Sun into perspective.
To complete the works on our solar system, the site also gives explainations on asteroids, meteors, comets and galaxies. All this to show there is much more in space than just our humble solar system.
To keep the attention of the visitors, the entire site is presented as real travellers agency. In order to make this seem real, SolarTours also offers potential travellers information about each planet, satellite, star type and other celestial body, allows visitors to send cards across the Internet, provides the option to sign a guestbook, calculates prizes of a booked trip online and keeps scores at the SolarTours Quiz.

When we first started making our site, we weren't sure exactly what is was going to look like. We knew that a high level of interactivity with our visitors would make the site more educational and interesting for them, so we made quizzes and a visitor response system so that they could add their knowledge, corrections, and comments to our site. Our web site is going to contain a broad range of information about stars. It will include information about the kinds of stars that there are, our sun, galaxies, solar systems with more than one star, the life and death of stars, and black holes. We might also include information about the color spectrum of light, variable stars, and the formation of planets. Our topics cover a wide variety of astronomy content, focusing primarily on stars. Illustrations were included with some of the topics so these concepts could be understood more easily. We also have a timeline of astronomy-related events to help our visitors understand when and by whom different discoveries were made. A photo gallery that has three sections show pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, and are courtesy of the Space Telescope Science Institute (http://oposite.stsci.edu/). The "image archive" as it is called makes the site more interesting and provides something more than words to describe stars and astronomical events. The list of topics we have are: 1) The Big Bang 2) General Star Information 3) Uses of the Color Spectrum with astronomy 4) Kinds of Stars 5) About Galaxies 6) Constellations 7) Timeline 8) Photo Archives 9) Bibliography 10) About Us

ThinkSpace is designed to teach people about space. Using the Internet style of learning we created a web page that would be both informative and fun for the internet user. There are five main sections to the page: Stars, Galaxies, Solar System, Universe, and Astronomers. In each of these main sections we enable the user to expand upon their present knowledge. It is our hope that the users will help our site grow by taking part in the interactive sections of the site. We have included two areas where users may add pictures to a gallery and submit samples of their creative writing as it relates to topics about space. Additionally our chat program will allow the user to discuss and exchange ideas on a global basis. This website is about our Solar System. In this website, students can learn about our sun, the nine planets, stars, black holes, galaxies, constellations, comets, meteors, and asteroids. On each planets page, we told about the planets distance from the sun, its diameter, physical appearance, and interesting facts about the planet. We also have at least two pictures on each page. On the page about our sun and other stars students can learn about the life of a star, starting as a nucleus and ending as a black hole. They will learn what a black hole is and what constellations. Comets, meteors, and asteroids are also explained there. One thing kids will like most about our website are two charts that tell students their weight and their age on other planets and on our moon. We tried our website at a curriculum fair, and kids liked this part best.

Visitors to our site will be transported to the Sun and its planets through a series of actual photographs and some drawings The trip includes comets and a visual explanation of a solar eclipse. We hope you will learn something you did not know before about this entertaining and wondrous topic. We expect that the use of actual photographs and links to NASA and other astronomical sites will make the study more realistic, since we cannot actually take you to the planets.

The educational objectives of the students' project are as follows:
1. To provide an overview of some basic facts about each of the planets in our solar system.
2. To show recent pictures of each of the planets.
3. To convey these facts in a fun way so young visitors to the site would be interested and want to stay for awhile and possibly return for another visit. This was accomplished by pretending that famous explorers from Earth visited the planets on a mysterious 80 day journey. Animation was also used to create an enticing environment for young visitors.
4. To make the site interactive by creating a game for the visitors to play and creating an Explorer's Log where visitors post comments for other guests to see. There is also a link where visitors can e-mail the students who created the web site.
5. To provide links to other interesting sites that provide more information about our solar system. These sites were thoroughly researched and are appropriate for young viewers.
6. To provide a bibliography where others could go for further research.
7. A secondary objective, aside of creating the web page, was to foster teamwork and encourage the students to meet regularly to give the finished product a "single voice". I feel we more than met that objective as the site is truly a collaborative effort, without any one student trying to "outshine" another.

The main educational objective of the site production "Solar System" was for the students to learn how to use the Internet as a research tool, and then use it as a presentation platform. The team had to determine what topic they wanted to use as their topic. So team building was an additional educational objective. Once they did their research they need to decide of all that information what exactly they wanted to include. And then make sure it looked good and the links worked properly.

Students will gain insight to the satellites which comprise our solar system. Information related to students of this age have been included, such as, how old a 10 year old would be on the other satellites. Another example students used in planet, moon, and sun descriptions was how much a person weighing 100 pounds would weigh on the respective satellites. This component assists in putting the enormity of the solar system into respective for students. We have also used actual NASA photographs taken from orbiters. These lithographs were scanned by students along with cite information relating what orbiter was responsible for the picture. Fnally, students have included a game which others may participate in electronically.
