This site will explore the dual faces of Mother Nature in Hawaii, both Beauty and Beast. Just as the fairy tale explores the two sides of human nature -- one dark and frightening, the other bright and loving -- so can we explore Mother Nature. Just as the fairy tale joings the two in marriage after a long journey of turmoil, learning, and understanding, so can we come to better understand our relationship with Mother Nature. "Beauty and the Beast" examines four powerful forces of nature in Hawaii -- volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis and hurricanes -- focusing on the disasterous consequences as well as learning lessons of hope and renewal.
