Why are Hawaii's Wetlands Vanishing?

2001
It is a fact that Hawaii has been estimated to have less than 10% of their wetlands remaining today! Unfortunately, one of the wetland that has vanished over a period of 300 years, is one that is located right in our community, Kaelepulu Pond. Kaelepulu Pond was once a thriving wetland filled with native wildlife. It was also known as one of the few natural freshwater fishpond in the state of Hawaii. All of this has vanished and what is left is a polluted pond which is now called Enchanted Lake. ?Why are Hawaii?s Wetlands Vanishing?? is an interactive website filled with dynamic graphics, animations, sounds, video clips, and a learning center of interactive activities. It takes the viewers on a journey back to the past when the wetland was a thriving marshland and then completes its journey to present day. You will virtually see the changes that affected the habitat and wildlife of Kaelepulu Pond.
